Where to Start?

My solo exhibition opened three weeks ago and will be up until October 12th. I was bit exhausted after the final push to get everything accomplished and, as a result, my blog has been silent since. But, the exciting news is that I have seventeen new works to share!

Restriction

Restriction

Today, I would like to share the first of my five sculptural pieces that are currently on display at Anthology Fine Art. Restriction is 3 x 4 feet in size and I constructed the form using wire, fiber, and wallpaper paste. Once dry, I applied several layers of primer before adding acrylic paint and drawings of the spine. This piece is highly textural which makes it a must-see in person!

Anthology Fine Art will be hosting another First Friday Reception a week from today on October 4th from 6-10pm.

“Pieces” Opens TONIGHT!!

September 5th have finally arrived! Please join me tonight from 6-8pm at Anthology Fine Art in Denver to celebrate the opening of Pieces! RSVP

Artist Statement:  In an instant our lives can shift in ways for which we are unprepared. The life that we once knew is permanently altered and a new existence becomes reality.  Pieces is a multifaceted installation that addresses the physical and psychological impact of a life-changing diagnosis.  Utilizing common household materials and re-purposing disposable objects, this body of work speaks to the cyclical death and rebirth that occurs on a minute or immense scale.  Grief over the loss of the life we once recognized transforms into reconstruction and discovery of the new version of life we are to lead.

Looking Back Can Lead to Further Evolution

I finally finished taking photographs of these small paintings. I had not held one of these works in my hands for a while. These original forty-two works have been a springboard for all of the new work I have since created and have yet to post on my blog. (If you want a sneak preview of some of that work, click Forrestal Contemporary Art to like my page on Facebook.  I post daily images of my progress with a quick description of what is happening).  It is important for me to look back to these original works to remind myself of the intent.  An organic shift or change in path is natural in the artistic process. I have figured out that the raw quality that these small paintings possess is crucial to my expressive intent.  So in these final weeks of preparing for my exhibition, I plan to keep this concept in the back of my mind.
