Reflection XXXIX

Reflection XXXIX

Reflection XXXIX is the second in the series of 24″x30″ paintings that will debut tomorrow night at the opening reception of my solo show. Using what I learned from my first large painting, it took fewer layers to complete Reflection XXXIX. Attaching the handmade paper is intense because making a mistake at that point in the process is not an option.  Luckily everything went smoothly!

These feel like underground layers somehow, even though there is quite a lot of blue in the composition. Then looking up into a pale sky.

If I may ask, are you aware when you begin / during the creation process what it is exactly that it is you want to represent (if you *are* representing anything concrete), or you kind of leave it up to the observer to make up their own mind?

Good question! It depends upon what series I am working in whether or not there is a concrete idea of what I am representing. This painting is in the Reflection series which is inspired by the Colorado mountain ranges. So I am very aware of each aspect of these paintings in order to create my abstracted nature representations. Other paintings in series like Found or Presence are meant to be interpreted by the viewer and I focus more on abstract compositions. Thanks so much for visiting!
