I had some new ideas I wanted to try out. I usually use discarded magazines to create interesting textures in my work by gessoing the magazines on to the canvas or paper as a base coat. But I suddenly had the thought to put this texture over other materials. I gessoed a bunch of magazines on a piece of plastic and waited for it to dry. Then I peeled the solid piece of gessoed magazines off of the plastic and tore it in strips using a ruler. When I tore the strips, I was intrigued by how much some of the strips looked like mountain ranges. I have combined multiple materials-paint, handmade paper, gessoed magazines, and a print from some mesh. Although this painting is small, only 8×10, it is quite bold!
